Do Beard Oils Work?

I often get emails from my readers asking ‘do beard oils work?’. I personally use beard oil daily and have seen fantastic results with it. Beard oils mainly contain essential oils and carrier oils. Essentials oils are derived from plants and they literally contain the plant’s immune system. The compounds in essential oils protect the plant from bacteria, mold, fungi and other harmful predators. So, there is no reason why they should not do the same for us humans. In this article, we will take a closer look at why beard oils are the best thing you can use for your beard.

It Is Natural To Doubt Your Beard Products

Man is curious by nature. It is this curiosity that helps him decide what is right for him. So, it is absolutely normal for the skeptic in you to wonder whether beard oils really work. After all; hair is made of dead cells. Why should it react in any way to whatever you apply on it?

The answer lies in Mini Molecules

Beard oils, as I have already mentioned before, consist of essential oils. Essential oils when studied under the microscope reveal very tiny molecular structures. These are unlike any other fatty oils like olive or coconut oil which people use for hair care. These mini molecules are easily absorbed by the skin where they work on the beard hair follicles to nourish them. Smaller molecules are always easy to permeate compared to the larger ones, so they are absorbed much easily into the skin. Beard oils are also transdermal meaning they penetrate deep into the skin’s dermis and into the circulatory system where they provide hundreds of health benefits to our hair and skin.

Beard Oils Protect, Pamper and Nourish

As mentioned before, essential oils comprise of the plant’s healing immune system and contain various properties such as anti-microbial, anti fungal, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic and so on. Beard oils also borrow the plant’s immune function properties and protect human skin and hair the same way they protect their parent plants. Combined with their tiny molecular structure and their transdermal properties, beard oils deeply penetrate the skin and work on your beard hair follicles nourishing and protecting them from every day stress and free radical damage.

Lingering Aroma of Beard OilsDo Beard Oils Work - aromatherapy for men

When we talk about beard oils and whether they really work, then we must talk about Aromatherapy. The lingering fragrance of the essential oils used in beard oils vaporize and when inhaled, provide hundreds of healing benefits to the mind and body. The most important of all these benefits is stress relief. Beard oils calm your mind and soothe away tension and stress. There has always been a great connection in between the olfactory sense and our sense of well being. When you inhale beard oils, you also inhale their healthy, immune boosting benefits.

Antioxidants and Anti Aging Benefits

Beard oils are packed with antioxidant compounds. These cleanse the skin of free radicals and slow down the aging process of the beard. Regular use of beard oils can minimize premature graying of hair. They can also protect the beard from environmental factors like sun, wind and pollutants and other factors that age our skin and hair. I recommend using the best beard oil recipes with pure essential oils to keep your beard looking luxurious for years to come.

Keep Beard Issues Away

Many men I know suffer from beard issues like sparse hair, patchy hair loss, dull and scraggly looking beards, ringworm and acne. Often, one gets frustrated with these issues and starts shaving again. I feel all these issues can be kept away through a regular beard grooming routine. Beard oils containing essential oils like tea tree, lavender, sandalwood, rosemary etc have antifungal and antiseptic properties which can prevent acne, ringworm and other common hair and skin problems. Regular beard massages also stimulate new hair growth and curb hair fall. Many beard oils and beard balms or conditioners can prevent skin irritation and itchiness which is a nuisance for bearded men.

Beard Oils Work But You Need Healthy Diet Too

Of course all the health benefits of beard oils will not occur overnight. You need to use them regularly to see results. Moreover, a great looking beard needs a healthy and balanced diet. I am sure you are already taking a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement. If not, it is high time you start. Include plenty of fresh fish, chicken turkey and eggs in your diet. If you are vegetarian or vegan, go for protein supplements as healthy beard needs tons of protein.

Beard Oil Recipes

I will now discuss a very easy beard oil recipe. There are tons of beard oil recipes on my website, so do browse through them and find one that suits your needs. The following beard oil recipe has worked very well for me. I massage it in the beard at night and wash it off the next morning. It contains castor oil which is a bit greasy but is wonderful for preventing hair loss. Its greasy texture however does not make it suitable for day time use. You can add any other essential oil you like but the ones I have mentioned in the recipe work fantastically as they are proven to combat hair fall.

Easy Beard Oil Recipe That Works For Hair Loss

  • 3 tbsp castor oil
  • 1 tbsp each Jojoba and coconut oils
  • 5 drops Roman Chamomile essential oil
  • 2-3 drops Rosemary essential oil
  • 3-4 drops Lavender essential oil

In a dark glass bottle with dropper cap, mix all the oils together. Shake the bottle well. Leave it undisturbed for a day to allow the oils to synergize. To use: shake the bottle well first then take required quantity in your palm. Massage the blend into the hair and skin. Place warm towel around the beard so that the skin and hair absorb the blend. Repeat application every 2-3 days in case of severe hair fall. You can wash off the oil in the morning using a beard shampoo.

Conclusion: Do Beard Oils Work?

Yes, I believe beard oils work provided you use the right recipes and ingredients sourced from a reputed vendor. Also, do use the beard oil regularly and supplement it with the right diet and exercise.
